Baseus has launched the PrimeTrip VD1 Pro, a dual-channel dash cam that records 4K UHD HDR footage from the front camera and 1080p video from the rear. Its differentiating feature is a parking-monitoring system that uses an integrated battery and solar panel to remain on standby without a permanent hardwired power connection.

The front unit has a 140-degree field of view, while the rear camera covers 120 degrees, and both cameras can record at the same time. Baseus equips the front camera with a Sony IMX335 STARVIS sensor, a six-element glass lens and an f/1.6 aperture. The configuration is intended to improve capture in low light and challenging scenes with major light changes, such as tunnels or oncoming headlights.

  • Front camera: 4K UHD HDR recording, 140-degree field of view, Sony IMX335 STARVIS sensor and f/1.6 lens.
  • Rear camera: 1080p recording with a 120-degree field of view.
  • Parking mode: integrated battery and solar-panel assistance, with G-sensor-triggered event recording.
  • Connectivity: built-in GPS and local 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6 for phone transfers and settings management.

Event-based parking protection, not continuous recording

Baseus rates the PrimeTrip VD1 Pro for up to 14 days of standby parking monitoring under favorable charging conditions. That figure refers to an event-based mode rather than round-the-clock recording: when the G-sensor detects an impact, the camera wakes and saves a clip of roughly 30 seconds.

The solar panel helps replenish the battery while the vehicle is parked, but it is not the dash cam’s primary operating power source. During driving, the system is powered from the vehicle through the supplied cable. Solar contribution will also vary with conditions, including shorter winter days, overcast weather and covered parking.

Drivers who need continuous recording while parked will still require dedicated power, such as a hardwire kit or an external battery, according to Baseus.

GPS data and associated recordings can be accessed through the Baseus app. The dash cam creates its own local Wi-Fi network for transferring video and changing settings, meaning it is not a cellular-connected camera that can be viewed remotely over the internet.

Other features include loop recording, impact-event protection, over-the-air updates and voice control. The 64GB bundle includes the rear camera, an approximately 6-meter cable, a USB-C car power adapter, mounting hardware and a microSD card.

An Amazon listing has placed the 64GB version at about €122, down from a previously listed price of about €153. Availability and pricing may vary by market; the key limitation remains whether the solar-assisted standby approach can provide sufficient parking coverage in a vehicle’s real-world parking conditions.
