A Galaxy Z Fold 8 developer demo has recreated the iPhone Duo’s headline folding animation less than a day after Apple presented it. The effect, shown as part of iOS 27, makes wallpaper and on-screen content appear to dissolve from one display to the other as the handset opens or closes.
Reddit user moomanjohnny used the Fold 8’s hinge-angle sensor to drive a similar transition. As the foldable closes, part of the image becomes semi-transparent, creating the impression that content is sliding between the outer display and the internal folding screen. The illusion is produced with sensor data, gradients and shaders; neither panel becomes physically transparent.
This is not a launcher-level implementation. The demo animates screenshots of the home screen, so its displayed icons and other interface elements cannot be interacted with. Third-party apps currently have limited access to One UI components, preventing the effect from being integrated directly into Samsung’s system interface.
An interactive Solo project offers a way to try a related visual effect, but whether Samsung or Apple will extend this type of hinge-driven transition into more interactive system software remains unresolved.
