Google has placed firmware version 3.79.550760 in its Preview program for four older Home and Nest smart speakers, extending new software support to the original Google Home launched in 2016. The update targets music and media playback, connectivity and smart-home controls, with a wider rollout expected after testing.
The Preview release supports the following speakers:
- Google Home (2016)
- Google Home Mini (2017)
- Google Nest Mini (2019)
- Google Nest Audio (2020)
Google says the firmware includes improvements across several core areas:
- Music and media playback
- Volume adjustment
- Initial device setup
- Wi-Fi connection stability
- Smart-home device commands and overall speaker performance

The release also refers to improvements to the Google Assistant experience. That may be connected to Google’s transition toward Gemini for Home, but the company has not specified which AI features, if any, are changing with this firmware.
Preview users can enroll through the Google Home app by selecting a speaker and navigating to Settings, Device information, Preview program, then Join program. Installation is generally performed automatically overnight.
Google expects the update to reach all users in the coming weeks once Preview testing is complete, though the company has not provided a more precise rollout schedule or detailed the Gemini-related changes.
