HONOR has published the first camera samples from its upcoming Magic9 Pro Max, placing the spotlight on the flagship’s long-range imaging system ahead of its September 28 debut in China. The company’s selected images include shots taken at the native 85mm periscope focal length, as well as examples labeled at 500mm and 1000mm with external teleconverters attached.
The Magic9 Pro Max is expected to use a 200MP periscope camera. HONOR is pairing it with two optional optical accessories: the G200, which provides a 2.35x optical factor, and the G500, rated at 5.88x. The latter is behind the most extreme focal-length examples released so far, including the 500mm and 1000mm shots.
Those focal lengths would extend the phone’s reach well beyond the telephoto ranges normally offered by integrated smartphone lenses. However, the samples were supplied by HONOR, rather than produced in independent testing, so their image quality and consistency will need to be evaluated after the device reaches reviewers and users.
HONOR has also said the Magic9 Pro Max incorporates imaging technology developed in collaboration with ARRI. Its September 28 event in China should clarify the full camera configuration, the availability of the G200 and G500 teleconverters, and whether the accessories will be offered outside the Chinese market.
