Huawei has introduced the FreeBuds SE 5 Max, a new budget-oriented true wireless model that claims up to 80 hours of total playback with its charging case. That is a 60% increase over the 50-hour claim for the FreeBuds SE 4 ANC, which the new earbuds succeed.

Each earbud carries a 41 mAh battery, while the charging case has a 920 mAh cell. Huawei rates the earbuds for up to 10 hours of playback on a charge with active noise cancellation disabled, or up to seven hours with ANC enabled.

  • Active noise cancellation is rated at up to 52 dB and includes Ultra, General, Cosy and Dynamic modes. Dynamic mode automatically adjusts the cancellation level to surrounding conditions.
  • LDAC audio transmission is supported at up to 990 kbps, alongside four preset sound profiles.
  • A six-microphone system is included for voice calls.
  • The earbuds support Bluetooth 6.0, cross-platform device connectivity and touch controls.
  • IP55 protection covers resistance to dust and water.

Huawei has retained a design close to the previous generation, but the charging case now uses a semi-transparent lid. Each earbud weighs 4.3 g, and the color options are blue, white and black.

The FreeBuds SE 5 Max has launched in Malaysia for about €35. Huawei has not confirmed whether the model will be released in Europe.
