Huawei is reportedly evaluating a detachable external lens system for the Pura 100 series, potentially pairing it with an upgraded 200MP main camera. The flagship family is not expected until 2027, and the claims remain unconfirmed.

Tipster SmartPikachu, posting on Weibo, says the accessory could take the form of a teleconverter mounted over the phone’s camera module. Unlike digital zoom, an external optical lens changes the image path before light reaches the sensor.

  • A telephoto-oriented version could extend optical reach.
  • A wide-angle option could provide a broader field of view.
  • A macro-oriented accessory could support close-up photography.

The rumored Pura 100 hardware would build on the Pura 90 Pro Max, described as Huawei’s first phone with a 200MP camera. External lens accessories are also reportedly being considered elsewhere in the company’s upcoming lineup and by rival Honor.

  • Huawei Pura 100: reportedly under testing with a 200MP main sensor and external lens support.
  • Honor Magic 9: reportedly planned to receive two teleconverter accessories.
  • Huawei Mate 90: rumored to support a similar accessory, potentially limited to the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition.

Camera hardware may not be the only planned change. Huawei is also said to be testing tandem OLED panels made of two layers, a design that can improve brightness, power efficiency and panel longevity. Other rumored changes include a revised design, a new biometric system and a front display cutout with three openings.

It remains unclear which Pura 100 models, if any, would support the external lens and whether Huawei would bundle the accessory or sell it separately. The series is expected to arrive after the Mate 90 lineup, leaving substantial time for its plans to change.
