Qualcomm may be testing native DirectX 12 support on its latest Snapdragon platform, a move that could materially improve PC game emulation on Android. In reported tests from Geekerwan, a Qualcomm reference smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 ran Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong at averages slightly above 30 fps using an unannounced DirectX 12 implementation.
Windows games can already run on Android through tools including Winlator and GameHub, but those setups typically depend on Wine, translation layers and, in some cases, unofficial Turnip GPU drivers. Qualcomm-provided DirectX 12 support could streamline that software stack and potentially improve both game compatibility and performance, although neither outcome has been confirmed.
Qualcomm has not officially detailed the reported implementation. It was not announced at Snapdragon Summit 2026, and the company has not provided a direct confirmation of DirectX 12 support for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 family.
The new Adreno generation nonetheless places greater emphasis on gaming features. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 includes dedicated matrix cores for AI functions, including AI Super Resolution and frame generation through Adreno Neural Fusion. Whether DirectX 12 support will be formally released, which Snapdragon devices could receive it, and how broadly it would work across Windows titles remain unresolved.
