Samsung could give the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra its newest M16 OLED material set, creating a more pronounced display split within the next flagship lineup. ETNews reports that the two models would become Samsung’s first phones to use M16, a material generation Samsung Display has reportedly already supplied for the iPhone 18 Pro and Google Pixel 11 series.
M16 is not the name of a new display panel type. It refers to the organic material set used in OLED production. Samsung Display’s M-series generations are intended to improve luminous efficiency and panel longevity, making the reported change more significant than a routine component revision.
The standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ are instead expected to use M14 materials. That would still mark an upgrade from the M13 materials used across the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S26 generations, while M14 has already appeared in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The result would be a two-tier display-material strategy within the S27 family.

The Pro and Ultra may also receive additional display-focused features. Previous reporting has linked both models to Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) and Privacy Display, which limits screen visibility from side angles. Privacy Display debuted on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, suggesting Samsung may extend screen-based differentiation beyond size, resolution and camera hardware.
Samsung Display is expected to supply every panel in the four-model range, which is currently rumored for the first quarter of 2027. Samsung has not confirmed the lineup, its display specifications, pricing or launch markets, leaving the final extent of the Pro and Ultra display advantage unresolved.
