Xiaomi is reportedly developing a compact premium tablet built around an OLED display, a move that could bring higher-end screen technology to the sub-9-inch Android tablet category. Leakers Digital Chat Station and Smart Pikachu say development is underway, with the former also pointing to narrow display bezels.
There is no product name or specification sheet yet. The chipset, display size and refresh rate have not been disclosed, while details on battery capacity, cameras, charging, memory configurations, pricing and launch plans are also absent.
Xiaomi has already explored smaller tablets through the 8.8-inch Redmi K Pad, which paired powerful hardware and a gaming focus with an LCD panel. A Xiaomi Pad Mini followed a similar concept. The newly reported device appears to be positioned above those products, potentially using Xiaomi branding rather than Redmi branding and making OLED its defining upgrade.
Digital Chat Station reportedly compared the tablet's form factor with the Xiaomi 18 Fold, suggesting a notably compact design with reduced borders around the screen. The leak hints at a high-end processor but does not identify one, so there is no basis yet to link the project to Xiaomi's XRING O3 chip, which recently appeared in the Pad 9 Pro Max.
The project would emerge as Apple is also rumored to be preparing an OLED-equipped iPad mini 8, reportedly with a 60Hz display. Xiaomi's potential advantage would rest on whether it can pair a compact OLED panel with a higher refresh rate and flagship-class hardware. For now, the key unknowns are the tablet's final size, silicon and whether Xiaomi intends to release it beyond its home market.
