Samsung is reportedly considering bringing forward the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, its next triple-folding phone, as it faces new competition in the foldable market. A leak from Korean tipster Lanzuk says the project remains on a 2027 development schedule, but the company is weighing an earlier commercial release; no launch month or quarter has been provided.
The second-generation TriFold is said to target the first model’s biggest compromises: its thickness, weight and durability. Samsung’s original Galaxy Z TriFold weighs 309 g and measures 12.9 mm thick when folded. Its three panels unfold into a 10-inch display, but that larger format comes with a substantial portability trade-off.

Samsung is also reportedly trying to keep the TriFold 2 close to the original model’s US$2,899 price. That would be a demanding target as component costs for foldables rise, according to TrendForce. The first-generation device had limited availability and was taken off sale after its stock was exhausted.
Apple adds pressure to the foldable segment
Apple’s iPhone Duo is expected to sharpen the competitive picture. TrendForce estimates roughly 5 million iPhone Duo shipments in 2026, which would translate to about 24.8% of the global foldable-phone market. The firm expects the broader category to reach approximately 20.2 million units this year.
The iPhone Duo starts at US$1,999, compared with the original Galaxy Z TriFold’s US$2,899 US launch price. The two devices are built around different concepts, but Samsung will need to make a clear case for the added value of a second hinge at the upper end of the market.
The same report says Samsung may also accelerate its first sliding-display phone. Earlier claims have pointed to an approximately 10-inch, 16:9 panel with a pixel density near 440 ppi, though those specifications are not confirmed for a commercial product. Samsung Display has demonstrated the underlying technology before: its 2023 Rollable Flex concept expanded from 49 mm to 254.4 mm.
For now, 2027 remains the reported reference point for both the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and Samsung’s sliding-phone project. Whether either device moves forward—and how Samsung can reduce the TriFold’s bulk without raising its price—remains unconfirmed.
