Samsung is facing a US patent lawsuit from IOENGINE, which alleges that the company used five of its connectivity patents without authorization across products and services in the Galaxy ecosystem. The complaint was filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
IOENGINE’s patents cover an architecture intended to let secondary devices securely connect to a primary device. The claimed technology is relevant to common device-pairing scenarios, such as a smartwatch or wireless earbuds connecting with a smartphone, tablet, or PC.
The lawsuit identifies the following Samsung products and software as allegedly using the disputed technologies:
- Galaxy S23 Ultra
- Galaxy Watch Ultra
- Galaxy Buds 2 Pro
- Samsung Portable SSD T7
- Galaxy Wearable
- Android Auto
IOENGINE is seeking financial damages, reasonable royalties, and an injunction that could prevent Samsung from continuing to use the allegedly infringing technology. The allegations have not been adjudicated, and it remains to be seen whether the case proceeds to a ruling or is resolved through a settlement.
