TCL has moved its NXTPAPER display concept to AMOLED with the P80 Ultra, combining the anti-glare, paper-like screen treatment with flagship-leaning midrange hardware including a 3x periscope telephoto camera. The handset starts at €549 in Europe for the 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage model, while the 512 GB version is priced at €599.
The P80 Ultra uses a 6.83-inch NXTPAPER AMOLED panel with a 2772 × 1280 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Its anti-glare layer is designed to cut reflections, while a physical side slider can switch the phone into Paper Mode or Max Ink Mode. The latter limits notifications and puts background apps to sleep; TCL says it can provide up to seven days of reading time, rather than seven days of typical phone use.
Camera hardware includes a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 50 MP periscope telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom, and an 8 MP ultrawide. TCL also lists 6x “lossless” zoom, although this is not a second optical zoom level. A 32 MP camera handles selfies.
Inside, the phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Elite chipset and comes with 8 GB of RAM alongside 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. It carries an IP68 rating, packs a 5,800 mAh battery and supports 45 W charging.
TCL is also including AI tools for translation, interpretation, transcription and rewriting. Their language support and practical performance will need separate testing. The P80 Ultra is promised four major Android version upgrades and seven years of security patches, but TCL has not detailed wider market availability beyond its European pricing.
