Xiaomi has opened the global HyperOS 4 Beta program, bringing its Android 17-based software to an initial group of seven phones. The first wave covers the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, Xiaomi 17T, Xiaomi 17T Pro, Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Leica-branded Leitzphone have already gained access to test builds. Xiaomi says HyperOS 4 Beta firmware for the Xiaomi 17T, 17T Pro, 15 Ultra and 15 is scheduled to arrive from September 17. This is only the first global testing batch, rather than Xiaomi’s complete compatibility list, with more devices expected to join later.

HyperOS 4 introduces a visual direction Xiaomi calls Soft Light Glass, built around translucent surfaces and glass-like effects. The company also promises deeper home-screen customization, faster app launches and additional AI-based features.

Camera changes include a revised HDR algorithm, which Xiaomi says should accelerate image processing and make the Camera app more responsive. The update is also said to improve video playback and overall system fluidity.

The Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra stand out in the early global rollout because both models are already available internationally. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra launched with Android 15 and HyperOS 2, and Xiaomi has committed to four major Android version updates for the device.

Eligible users can apply through the Xiaomi Community app, but Xiaomi cautions that the OTA-installed beta does not offer a simple path back to the previous release. In some cases, reverting may require manually flashing a ROM through the bootloader. Xiaomi has yet to publish the full global HyperOS 4 Beta expansion schedule.
