Xtream Player 1.4.0 adds chess and Connect 4 to Android Auto displays, giving Premium subscribers a small selection of games intended exclusively for use while the vehicle is parked. The update also delivers playback fixes affecting YouTube and YouTube Music.
The app is the successor to Fermata Xtream, an unofficial project designed to extend Android Auto beyond Google’s standard feature set. Its developer said the games idea came from waiting in a car, and indicated that further simple titles could be added later. The gaming feature is limited to the Premium edition.
Version 1.4.0 also updates the app’s icons and addresses several issues shared by its editions. YouTube Music can now skip its trial prompt automatically, while subsequent tracks should continue playing in the background. A bug that could leave the display black after using the side-panel skip control has also been fixed.
Premium users receive additional FS Play fixes. YouTube playback is expected to be smoother, and seek, rewind and fast-forward controls are working again. The developer is also working on a feature that would let users select a YouTube video on their phone and send it directly to the vehicle display.
The app’s approach remains outside Google’s official Android Auto framework, although Google has been moving toward limited in-car video support with safety restrictions and use primarily while parked. Xtream Player is also preparing a full EPG guide for IPTV and M3U sources; the current version shows only the programme currently on air.
Another issue under investigation affects some infotainment systems that return to radio after a phone call ends. The developer has hinted that another update could arrive as soon as the weekend.
