Samsung Electronics has led a €3 billion Series D funding round for Mistral AI, pairing a strategic stake in the French AI company with plans to use its models across Samsung’s semiconductor business.
Samsung’s individual investment has not been disclosed. The financing puts Mistral AI at an approximate valuation of €21 billion, or about $24.4 billion. Samsung is expected to use technologies including Mistral Large, the company’s flagship language model, in chip-production operations.
The companies plan to develop customized AI models that run on Samsung’s own on-premises infrastructure. Keeping those systems within Samsung’s network is intended to protect sensitive manufacturing data and intellectual property from being sent to external services.
Potential uses include identifying defects during chip fabrication and optimizing equipment in factories. Samsung aims to shorten development cycles, improve production-process accuracy and stabilize manufacturing yields for advanced process nodes.
The technology could be deployed across Samsung Semiconductor operations spanning foundry, memory and logic chips. The partnership was announced in Paris during a state summit focused on France-South Korea cooperation, while the scope and rollout timing for individual Samsung divisions remain undisclosed.
