Google has released a dedicated Gemini app for Windows 10 and Windows 11 worldwide. Its central desktop feature is an Alt + Space keyboard shortcut that opens Gemini over the active window, allowing users to look up information, request a summary, or begin a chat without fully switching away from their current task.
Gemini can also be launched from the taskbar or system tray. When signed in with the same Google account, users’ Gemini conversation history and memory synchronize across their devices.
The Windows app retains Gemini’s connections to Gmail and Google Drive for retrieving information, while also offering several of the platform’s newer AI tools:
- Gemini Spark for tasks involving multiple steps.
- Nano Banana for image generation.
- Gemini Omni for video generation.
Access to individual capabilities may vary by feature availability and Google AI subscription plan, so the full experience will not be identical for every account.
The launch extends Gemini’s expansion beyond mobile devices. Google introduced the assistant on Android in 2024 and has continued to deepen its integration with the platform, including more recent Find Hub-related features. Gemini’s mobile apps are available in more than 150 countries across Android and iOS.
Google says more Windows-native Gemini capabilities are planned, leaving the desktop release as the starting point for a broader integration with the PC operating system.
