OpenAI is rolling out a Privacy Center in ChatGPT that consolidates explanations of privacy-related features, but it is not a new control panel. The section, accessed through the account menu, directs users to existing settings rather than disabling features, deleting data or overriding an organization’s administrator policies.
The Privacy Center covers Memory, personalized ads, location, temporary chats, connected apps, multi-factor authentication and data use. Each category includes explanatory material and a Manage button that opens the relevant existing ChatGPT setting.
OpenAI also highlights several limits that may not be obvious from the settings themselves. Deleting a conversation does not automatically remove information saved in Memory; saved memories must be deleted separately. Likewise, turning off the option that allows conversations to help improve models applies to future data use and does not erase existing chat history or alter Memory settings.
For eligible Free and Go users, ads may still appear after personalized advertising is turned off. In that case, ads can continue to be selected using the current conversation and general information. OpenAI says advertisers do not receive users’ conversations, chat histories, saved memories or personal data.
The rollout is gradual across the web, iOS and Android, and the options shown can vary by region, subscription and account type. Access is currently being extended to signed-in accounts on these plans:
- Free
- Go
- Plus
- Pro
- Business
ChatGPT Enterprise, Edu and ChatGPT for Healthcare are not included for now. The new section is therefore primarily a navigation and education layer over ChatGPT’s existing privacy controls, with availability and displayed features still dependent on the account.
