Fiat has revealed the Multiplay concept, an SUV-like vehicle designed to electronically transform its rear section into an open pickup bed. The concept was presented at the Paris Motor Show, but Fiat has not confirmed plans for a production version.
Its conversion mechanism lowers the rear side windows, slides the roof section behind the B-pillar forward, and moves the final row of seats closer to the middle row. That leaves an open cargo area intended for larger loads.
The rear spoiler also serves a functional role: it can fold down to expose attachment points for accessories or luggage. Fiat has split the tailgate horizontally, with the two sections opening outward.
Inside, the Multiplay replaces a conventional central touchscreen layout with a panoramic display positioned directly below the windscreen and stretching across the dashboard. The show car has four seats, although its underlying layout can accommodate six occupants, echoing a defining feature of the original Multipla.
The exterior combines rounded cabin forms reminiscent of the 1998 Multipla with pronounced wheel arches, unpainted plastic cladding and tires intended for rougher terrain. Fiat’s continued interest in pickup utility also has a market backdrop: the Fiat Strada was Brazil’s best-selling vehicle for a fifth consecutive year in 2025. For now, however, the Multiplay remains a design study rather than a confirmed addition to the lineup.
