Huawei’s native HarmonyOS platform has reportedly surpassed 85 million devices in China, bringing it within roughly 15 million devices of the 100 million-user milestone previously projected for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Figures published on September 7 indicate that about 272,600 devices were added on September 5 and a further 359,800 on September 6. The start of the school season was cited as a factor behind the faster pace of installations.
The reported growth has accelerated sharply since Huawei disclosed 66 million HarmonyOS devices at HDC 2026 on June 12. The total reportedly passed 70 million on July 2 and 80 million on August 20, implying an increase of around 14 million devices in about 70 days.
Huawei smartphone sales are a significant driver of the expansion. The Mate 80 series, introduced in November 2025, had reportedly sold more than 8.5 million units by the end of August. The Mate 80, Pura 90, nova 16 and Enjoy 90 are listed as shipping with HarmonyOS 6 or supporting an upgrade to that release, while Huawei continues to offer HarmonyOS 6 for compatible older devices.
The software catalog is also expanding alongside the installed base. By late August, HarmonyOS 6 devices reportedly had access to more than 400,000 apps and services, with over 11 million developers registered in the ecosystem. Whether the recent installation pace can be sustained will determine if Huawei reaches the 100 million mark ahead of its Q4 2026 target.
