HMD is reportedly preparing the Xplora Go Pad, a compact children’s tablet developed with Norwegian company Xplora. The unannounced device is said to center on parent-managed access, including controls for internet and social media use, approved contacts, screen time and the tablet’s location.
Reported software features also include web-activity monitoring, inappropriate-content blocking and AI-based educational tools. The approach would extend the child-safety focus of the HMD Fusion X1, a phone for teenagers previously developed by HMD and Xplora.
The Go Pad is tipped to use an 8.7-inch IPS LCD and Qualcomm’s 6nm Snapdragon 685 platform, which includes an integrated 4G modem. That could allow the tablet to remain connected away from Wi-Fi when used with a SIM card.
Durability is another reported focus. The tablet is expected to carry an IP65 rating for dust and water protection and withstand drops from up to 100 cm. Wired charging is listed at 18W.
HMD and Xplora have yet to announce the Go Pad or confirm its battery capacity, display resolution, refresh rate, memory and storage configurations, pricing, or launch markets. Those details will determine how the tablet is positioned against other connected devices built around child-focused software controls.
