Huawei is expanding Celia from a conventional voice assistant into an AI agent that can carry out multi-step actions across HarmonyOS 7. Rather than only answering requests or opening individual functions, the assistant can combine system tools and app services to work toward an outcome specified by the user.
Known as Xiaoyi in China, Celia has access to more than 2,100 system functions and over 500 ecosystem Skills in HarmonyOS 7, according to Huawei. That access is intended to let the assistant connect actions involving files, calendars, browsers and other services under a single request.
Huawei’s examples include tailoring a CV found on the phone to a job listing by adding recent experience and adapting it to the role’s requirements. If an interview invitation arrives later, Celia can extract the time and address, add them to the calendar, and help simulate an interview.
Other listed capabilities include finding photos and files from approximate descriptions, continuously translating pages and documents, identifying copied addresses, links or codes and suggesting relevant actions, and organizing information from messages and notifications. Huawei also cites background content generation, smart-home control through Celia Claw, and handling calls in user-configured scenarios.
The system’s broader access makes permissions a central part of the feature. Huawei says Celia can use more than 200 types of system data to understand context and preferences when the user grants permission. The company is positioning this as a move from an assistant that explains how to perform a task to one that can perform parts of it directly.
The AI changes arrive alongside new Huawei hardware. The Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design runs HarmonyOS 7 and introduces the Kirin 9050 Pro, while the Pura X View pairs the operating system with the Kirin 9030S.
Huawei began a public HarmonyOS 7 testing program on September 7 for a range of Mate 70 and Mate 80, Pura 80 and Pura 90, nova, Mate X foldable and MatePad models, with more devices due to enter beta testing in October. Huawei officially lists the upgrade as available only in mainland China for now, and has not announced an international timetable.
Huawei says HarmonyOS has surpassed 85 million devices and that its ecosystem offers more than 400,000 apps and services. Whether Celia’s new agent capabilities reach users outside China—and which of those capabilities travel with an eventual wider rollout—remains unconfirmed.
