Huawei’s next book-style foldable, the Mate X8, could pair the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset with a 50MP main camera and a second 50MP periscope telephoto camera, according to tipster Smart Pikachu. The device is also said to retain a large inward-folding display measuring roughly 8 inches.

  • The 50MP periscope camera is rumored to use Huawei’s RYYB color filter arrangement, which replaces the conventional RGB layout with red, yellow, yellow and blue pixels to improve light capture.
  • The camera system may support telemacro photography and slow-motion video, while the main camera is described as offering a very wide dynamic range.
  • A multispectral sensor is also rumored to be part of the imaging setup, potentially helping with color reproduction.
  • Separate reports have raised the possibility of a 1-inch-type main camera sensor, but that detail remains unconfirmed.

Earlier claims put the Mate X8’s outer display at 6.5 inches and its folding panel at 8.15 inches. The handset could also carry a battery rated above 6,000mAh, a notable capacity target for a large-format foldable.

Huawei Mate X8

Huawei may unveil the Mate X8 in China in November, although neither that timing nor wider international availability has been confirmed. The same product roadmap is rumored to include a second-generation MatePad Mini with 5G and a high-refresh-rate display, as well as a foldable PC and new earbuds; it is unclear which of those products, if any, will launch alongside the phone.
