Samsung has turned reports of cracked inner displays on some iPhone Duo units into a marketing campaign for the Galaxy Z Fold8. Regional Samsung accounts in Canada, Malaysia and Australia have shared posts and videos referencing “Crackgate,” an online label attached to images of cracks and lines appearing around the fold of certain Apple handsets.

The campaign uses bright lines across Galaxy Z Fold8 display imagery to mimic the reported iPhone Duo fault, before revealing that the apparent damage is a wallpaper effect. One post frames Samsung’s message around the company’s eight generations of Fold devices, while another suggests that opening a foldable should not come with a cracked screen.

Reports of affected iPhone Duo units emerged after the device launched on October 23, with buyers posting images of cracks and display lines near the hinge on the inner panel. Apple has acknowledged that a small number of devices are affected and is directing customers to AppleCare for replacements, but it has not disclosed the cause of the issue.

Samsung is leaning on the experience it has built since the first Galaxy Fold arrived in 2019, but the ads do not establish a like-for-like durability comparison between the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Apple’s foldable. Apple’s explanation for the reported display failures remains the key unresolved detail.
