Amazon has unveiled the Echo Show 16, expanding its largest smart display into a compact Fire TV screen and connected-home control hub. The device pairs a 16-inch 1080p display with Alexa+ integration, a 10-speaker audio system and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera that can also serve as a night-vision security camera.
The Echo Show 16 succeeds the Echo Show 15 with a display that is 10% larger and a chassis Amazon says is 40% thinner. Buyers can choose glossy glass or a matte nano-textured finish intended to cut reflections. The aluminum-bodied device can be wall-mounted or used with a separate adjustable stand.
Fire TV integration gives the display its television functions, while its audio hardware comprises eight woofers and two tweeters. The system automatically adjusts sound output for the room. A built-in ambient-temperature sensor and a processor said to be 20% faster than the one in the Echo Show 15 support its smart-home role.

Its 13MP camera supports video calls and Alexa+ person recognition at distances of up to 5 meters. Night vision allows the camera to be used for monitoring, while a dedicated control can disable both the camera and microphones. Alexa+ can also be used to manage smart-home devices, display calendars and show photos.
