Microsoft will hold a Windows and Surface event in San Francisco on October 7, with local AI computing and NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform at the center of its PC strategy. The company is expected to share updates on Windows, Surface hardware and the wider PC ecosystem.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and Microsoft executive vice president for Windows and Devices Pavan Davuluri are scheduled to appear. Their presentations are expected to address the companies’ collaboration and plans for PCs capable of running complex AI models locally rather than relying as heavily on cloud processing.
The Surface Laptop Ultra is the most likely candidate for a fuller unveiling. Microsoft announced the laptop in June 2026 but did not disclose its price or release date. It is based on NVIDIA RTX Spark, described as NVIDIA’s first SoC designed for Windows devices, and is intended to provide enough performance for AI workloads to run directly on the PC.
Microsoft and NVIDIA are positioning local AI as a foundation for software agents that can take on routine and more complex workflows, including:
- Organizing files
- Summarizing documents
- Searching for information
- Executing complex workflows
Microsoft has already demonstrated that direction through its experimental Project Solara devices, while several laptop manufacturers have introduced their own RTX Spark-based systems. Exact launch dates and pricing for those products remain unclear. The October event may establish when the next Surface generation will arrive and how deeply local AI features will be integrated into Windows.
