As a response to Sprint’s release of the Froyo update for HTC EVO 4G, Verizon has just announced it’ll launch the Android 2.2 upgrade for its Motorola Droid units. The update will come this week, but no certain date was mentioned just yet. This means you’ll be getting mobile hotspot features on and 720p video capture support on your Droid.

Europeans should fret not, as their own flavor of Froyo will land on their Milestone units soon enough. Let’s just hope that this Android 2.2 release is less bugged than the one for HTC Desire.
