Remember the fact that Motorola is going to split into two companies in January 2011? Well, one of them is going to be Motorola Mobility, handling the mobile device side of things and they’ll also include the original firm’s set-top-box business. Wondering why? It might be that Moto is working on a standalone device that will stream video content to tablets and phones.

This theory came during the Reuters Global Media Summit, courtesy of company president Daniel Moloney. This consumer option was bound to come, sooner or later and we learn that the device will be available through service providers, maybe with a cable contract or carrier contract.

An extra fee could be charged for its use, but nothing’s for sure, yet.
