Don’t expect a PlayStation-like gaming experience on your Android or iOS handset through the just-announced Sony app. The Japanese giant has just confirmed that it intends to launch the official PlayStation App for iPhone and Android and we learn it’ll be very similar to what Microsoft is doing with the Xbox Live Hub on Windows Phone 7.

This means that you’ll be connected to the PlayStation Network, as you’re kept up to date with messages from friends, achievement points and the latest PlayStation news. The app will debut on Android 1.6+ devices and iOS 4.0+ handsets in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Holland, while US will have to wait a bit more.

No info on the XPERIA PSP Phone for the time being, but the release of this app must be some sort of sign, right?
