Valve may be close to opening reservations for its Steam Frame VR headset. A customer message reportedly uncovered in the company’s backend says prospective buyers will be selected at random on September 17, pointing to a possible reservation opening on September 14.
The September 14 date is an inference rather than an announced deadline. Valve opened Steam Machine reservations three days before its buyer-selection process, and observers believe Steam Frame could follow the same schedule. The random-selection wording reportedly disappeared from the backend briefly before returning, suggesting Valve may use the system to reduce bot and scalper activity during the initial sales window.
- September 14: the inferred date for Steam Frame reservation availability.
- September 17: the date cited in the reported backend message for random buyer selection.
- 19:00 CEST: an unconfirmed estimated announcement time based on Valve’s previous hardware launches.
Other signs have emerged in recent days, including the release of SteamVR 2.17 and backend updates to several Steam Frame packages. A ShortCircuit video containing early impressions was also reported to have appeared before its embargo expired. Separately, the Valve hardware partner Komodo Station has drawn attention from the community because it has disclosed information about Valve products ahead of schedule in the past.
Steam Frame is part of Valve’s broader return to hardware, alongside the Steam Machine and a new Steam Controller. The company’s Steam Deck has already shown that SteamOS can succeed as a consumer product beyond traditional PCs, and the headset would extend that strategy into VR.

For now, Valve has not formally announced a reservation date or time. Any official reveal should clarify Steam Frame pricing, delivery timing, regional availability, and the exact rules for the random selection process.
