Tesla has set October 1 for the reveal of its next-generation Roadster, restarting a program that has faced repeated delays since the electric sports car was first shown in 2017. The company posted a teaser bearing the date “10.01,” and Elon Musk later confirmed that it refers to the new Roadster.

The event is expected to clarify how much has changed since the original 2017 prototype. Recent reports indicate that Tesla has moved away from the earlier design toward a new carbon-fiber hypercar concept, though Tesla has not confirmed final styling or technical specifications.

The most unusual reported feature is a SpaceX-linked package of cold-gas thrusters for a limited version of the car. Such a system has been suggested as a way to give the Roadster extreme acceleration and potentially allow it to lift off the ground, but Tesla has yet to formally detail the hardware or confirm whether it will appear at the October presentation.

A reveal should not be confused with the start of deliveries. When the second-generation Roadster was introduced in November 2017, Tesla initially discussed deliveries in 2020. Musk later pointed to an April 1, 2026 production-version reveal, which did not take place, followed by reports of other possible summer windows.

Musk has previously said production would begin 12 to 18 months after the unveiling. If that estimate remains valid, manufacturing would start between fall 2027 and spring 2028. Tesla’s October event may finally establish the Roadster’s finished form, but a firm production schedule remains the key unanswered detail.
