The folks of the XDA Developers community have managed to get hold of a leaked version of the Windows Phone 7 ROM and discovered something interesting about it. Apparently, hidden in the software you’ll find hints about a new HTC smartphone, apparently codenamed “Mondrian”.

This is sort of a tribute to the Windows Phone 7 Metro UI, that in its turn is inspired by art. Mondrian is the name of a Dutch artist (Pieter Mondrian), famous for his rectangular block paintings. You can see the similarities between his work and the Metro UI in the image above.

What we’re really wondering is what device this really is… could it be the HTC HD3 we’ve been waiting for?
