The Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra has a funny short name, “MoPho”, but these MoPhos can sure play music! The interesting thing is that they use iPhones to do so, coupled with custom musical apps, and speakers attached to the musicians’ hands.

The music the MoPhos make relies on custom software, the iPhone’s multi-touch display and accelerometers, that generate musical tones. Those will get amplified by the above-mentioned speakers and we’ll have a pretty calming music to listen to.

Coordinating these musical efforts is Stanford Assistant Professor Ge Wang, who speaks about this project in the interview from the video above.
