Nubia has launched the NaviX Ultra in China as a commercial smartphone built around ByteDance’s Doubao AI agent. The company positions it as a mass-produced AI-agent phone, with software designed to interpret a request, divide it into steps and perform actions across supported apps and services.

According to ZTE, Doubao can handle tasks involving messages, schedules, searches and documents, including longer-running jobs in the background. Users can also add new instructions while a task is underway. Its practical reach will depend on authorized third-party integrations, an important limitation for AI systems attempting to operate across apps.

An orange AI button on the side doubles as a fingerprint reader. The assistant uses ByteDance’s full-duplex Seed voice model, allowing users to interrupt it while it responds. Nubia says it supports multiple dialects and can interpret both on-screen content and images captured by the phone. With user permission, it can retain preferences and saved information for future searches.
