Qualcomm has introduced today a new step in the evolution of fast mobile charging, by unveiling Quick Charge 3.0. This new solution is compatible with modern ports and lets a smartphone charge much faster than before.

Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 was able to charge devices 40% faster than conventional chargers a few years ago and then one year later Quick Charge 2.0 appeared, charging devices 75% faster than conventional chargers. Now it’s time for version 3.0 to arrive, with lots of advantages. It juices up devices up to 4 times faster than conventional charging and it doubles the speed of Quick Charge 1.0, plus it’s 38% more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0.

Quick Charge 3.0 uses Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), a special algorithm that allows a device to determine what the ideal power level is at any time. This will maximize efficiency and another novelty is the dynamically adjusting of the ideal voltage level, from 3.6V up to 20V, in 200 mV increments. The technology is easy to implement by OEMs, being 100% backward compatible with Quick Charge 1.0 and Quick Charge 2.0 devices, as well as with USB type C ports for example.

The devices with processors like Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430 will offer support for this tech.
