It appears that following the free licensing of Windows Phone 8, a lot of Chinese companies have become interested in such products and also a lot of ODMs went ahead and started competing for orders. Bigger brands will opt for ODMs to manufacture their products and even Nokia is doing it.

Nokia resorts to Quanta Computer for their orders, while Wistron and Pegatron will outbid each other for WP8 orders. Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, Gionee and K Touch all have plans to debut entry level and midrange WP 8.1 smartphones in the following months, for both the Chinese market and emerging countries. Chinese firm BYD and LongCheer Holdings will also compete for Wp8 ODM orders.

It seems the ascension of Windows Phone is finally happening, or at least in theory there’s room for it, so maybe that OS will start mattering more than a few percents in the whole smartphone OS landscape. What do you think? Will the Asian makers save the day for Microsoft?
