Starting from last weekend, Vodafone UK customers will be able to use Twitter on their mobile phones, by sending SMS messages and using a new 86444 short code. The service will be available for free, at least for a while.

Vodafone’s agreement with Twitter allows customers to send updates and receive notifications via SMS, informing them what’s new on Twitter. The offer is only available for Vodafone UK customers, who will also be able to follow a person on Twitter on the go, send out replies via SMS and many more.

These SMS updates will be completely free for the following weeks, as they’ll be bundled with the subscriptions. Afterwards, the clients without bundles will get regular charges, however, text message updates sent from Twitter will remain free.
