Apple may be developing two first-party game controllers, according to references reportedly found in a macOS Tahoe 26.7 Release Candidate. The code points to a basic wired model and a more feature-rich controller with Bluetooth and motion sensors, potentially expanding Apple’s hardware role in gaming beyond its existing support for third-party pads.
The devices are listed under the model identifiers T6502 and T1057. Both appear to follow the familiar modern controller layout, with ABXY face buttons, two clickable analog sticks, analog triggers, and Home and Menu buttons.
T6502 appears to be the simpler option. It is described as USB-only and lacks motion sensors, a touchpad, microphone and speaker. However, it includes an Options button and a more elaborate four-channel haptic setup for its two vibration motors, which could support more varied feedback effects than a conventional controller.
The second controller is said to support USB and Bluetooth connectivity, alongside an accelerometer and gyroscope for motion-based input. It appears to use a single haptic motor and does not show an Options button in the reported system references.
The controller references were initially visible in macOS 26.7 but reportedly disappeared in a later build. It is not known whether Apple removed the code entirely or simply concealed the identifiers, and there is no confirmation that either accessory will reach the market.
Apple already supports controllers from PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and other manufacturers across its platforms. Its own controller line would signal a more direct commitment to gaming as the company continues to improve graphics performance in its chips and bring larger game releases to Mac and iPhone. For now, the purpose, launch timing and final feature sets of the apparent accessories remain unknown.
