MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M for upcoming premium Android phones, promising on-device AI processing and support for compatible games at up to 185 frames per second. The first smartphones using either platform are expected before the end of 2026.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro is MediaTek’s first processor built on TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process. The smaller node is intended to pack more transistors into a smaller area while improving performance and power efficiency. It belongs to the same process generation used for Apple’s A20 Pro chip in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
MediaTek says the 9600 Pro will improve everyday performance over the Dimensity 9500 and accelerate AI workloads handled directly on a phone rather than continuously sending user data to cloud services. Potential uses include content creation and editing, translation, summaries, photo processing and personal-assistant features.
The company has not yet disclosed a full CPU core configuration, details of the new GPU, or percentage performance gains over the Dimensity 9500. Its 185fps gaming figure will also depend on game optimization, handset cooling and the display fitted by each phone maker.
The Dimensity 9600M is positioned as a more accessible alternative for a wider range of devices, while retaining support for AI features and gaming at up to 185fps. MediaTek’s prior Dimensity 9500 has appeared in devices including the OPPO Find X9 Pro.
Qualcomm’s next Snapdragon platform is expected to be unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit on September 22, setting up the next contest in high-end Android silicon. MediaTek has yet to name launch partners or confirm which markets will receive the first Dimensity 9600 Pro and 9600M phones.
