We thought that making the T-Mobile G2 800MHz CPU reach 1.4GHz was a tremendous overclocking feat, but here’s one for the record: two users from Team DeFuse brought the Moto Droid X and Droid 2 from 1GHz to 2GHz. Hours later, Matt from Team DeFuse made the big announcement: Droid reached 3GHz.

There’s a video proof at the end of the article, but the device is pretty laggy. Also, no benchmark results have been posted yet, so everyone’s getting suspicious. The developers are trying to make the release stable, while a specialist from SetCPU tweeted that we’re dealing with a hoax.

What’s you call? Is this incredible overclocking real? Will the smartphones eventually burn out?
