Motorola Atrix 4G, the hot dock-based smartphone that threatens to replace PCs has just received a software update. It has now reached Android 2.3 Gingerbread via software upgrade, in the 2.3.4 flavor. What you get through it is stuff like HD video playback, improved web browsing and much more…

An important new feat is the ability to sideload apps, courtesy of AT&T’s permission to do so. The software pack measures 161MB and you’ll most likely want to perform the update to enhance every aspect of your great Motorola phone. It took AT&T and Motorola a while, but here they are, with app sideloading, a bunch of new features and Gingerbread.

Will Samsung and LG learn lessons from them?
